Dr Nelson Alves, MBBCh, BSc (Hons) in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology, DipPEC (SA), is an emergency medicine physician who completed both his Honours degree in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and his medical training at the University of the Witwatersrand, later obtaining the Diploma in Primary and Emergency Care from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
He currently serves as Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) at ER Consulting, where he provides clinical oversight and leads protocol development across Netcare emergency departments. In 2013, he played a key role in establishing Netcare’s first accredited Stroke Unit at Netcare Linmed Hospital, contributing to enhanced stroke care practices within the group.
Dr Alves remains actively involved in clinical practice and medical education, instructing Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Emergency Medicine Approach to Trauma (EMATT), while participating in continuing professional development initiatives and exploring the integration of artificial intelligence into the emergency medicine space to enhance clinical efficiencies, clinical decision-making and patient care.
