Le Roux completed medical school in 2015, followed by his internship and community service years. He then spent three years working abroad on cruise ships—until COVID-19 brought his travel to a sudden halt and opened an unexpected door.
Shifting into project management, he oversaw the outfitting of a cruise ship at Fincantieri Shipyard, gaining hands-on experience in team leadership, budgeting, logistics, and systems planning—skills that would shape the foundation of his next venture.
Returning to South Africa in 2021, Le Roux set his sights on orthopaedic surgery, only to face the stark reality of how competitive and under-resourced the journey can be. While assisting in private practice, he saw an opportunity to bridge a gap. That spark became The Surgical Assistant (TSA).
What started as a last-minute solution for surgeon slate cover has now grown into a national platform—providing elective slate bookings, skill development, and mentorship for aspiring surgical assistants.
In 2024, the journey expanded again with the launch of the TSA Academy: an online, CPD-accredited learning platform designed for doctors preparing for CMSA exams, and for those wanting to upskill and excel in their work.
With CMSA primaries and intermediates behind him, Le Roux is still on the path to becoming an orthopaedic surgeon—but now, he’s bringing others with him.
